WARSAW 38, PLYMOUTH 32
Warsaw wrestling earned a thrilling, 38-32 Northern Lakes Conference win over visiting Plymouth Thursday night.
After the two teams traded forfeits at 106 and 113, Andrew Ross fought out a tough, 6-2 decision at 120, but a Plymouth technical fall at 126 gave the Rockies their last lead of the night at 11-9.
Brock Hogenson took a slight lead into the second period of his 132-pound match before nailing down a pin to give the Tigers back the lead at 15-11.
Jacob Bass went into double-overtime in a back-and-forth match at 145 and secured a late takedown to push the Tigers’ lead out to 18-14. Jose Grimmett and Brandon Estepp earned a pair of pinfall wins at 152 and 160, respectively, to balloon the home team’s advantage out to 29-14, Jayton Brock found a way to scrape out a gritty, 11-9 decision and a huge win at 170, and Brock Hueber moved up to 195, where he earned Warsaw its final six points with a pinfall.
The win pushed Warsaw’s record to 7-5 overall and 2-1 in the NLC.
In JV action, meanwhile, the Tigers picked up wins from Alex Jordan at 152 and Josh Pelfrey at 160.
The Warsaw varsity will be in action on Saturday at Northridge for the Raider Duals, when the Tigers JV head to Plymouth for their individual tournament.
WAWASEE 38, GOSHEN 27
Wawasee’s wrestling team moved to 3-0 in the Northern Lakes Conference with a 38-27 victory at Goshen Thursday night.
Alec Wortinger gave the Warriors their first win via second-period pinfall at 126 pounds, Geremia Brooks won by third-period, 22-6, technical fall at 132, and Braxton Alexander won a 13-5 major decision at 138 as the visitors jumped out to an early 15-3 advantage. Izzy Faurote earned Wawasee its second tech fall, 20-3, at 152 pounds, Logan Baugh scored a late takedown for a 4-2 win at 160 pounds, Alex Castro won a 9-2 decision at 182, Isaiah Tipping won by pinfall in the first period at 220, and Dylan Tom finished off a pin with eight seconds remaining in the first period at 113 pounds.
The Warriors move to 12-1 overall with the win. They will host Concord in another NLC meet next Thursday.
MANCHESTER 50, TIPPECANOE VALLEY 27
Valley’s wrestlers lost a Three Rivers Conference dual at Manchester Thursday.
The Vikings collected five wins in the team loss. Haley Hoover won via forfeit at 106 pounds, Drake Montelongo won by second-period pinfall at 113, Branson McBrier won by third-period pinfall at 132, Jacob Eherenman eked out a 10-8 decision at 145, and Jon Humes won by first-period fall at Jone Humes.
In JV action, the Vikings won 12-6 with Joel Ordaz-Cisneros and James Borntrager both winning by pinfall.
