Katheryn Yates — UPDATED
Katheryn Yates, 64, passed away unexpectedly at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw. Born April 1, 1954, in Prestonsburg, Ky. she was born to Okie and Josephine (Hall) Fields. Raised in Kentucky, she was one of five children. In 1970, she and Eddie Yates were married in Bonanza, Ky. He preceded her in death.
She was a collector of wolves and cardinals. She enjoyed gardening and crochet. She had a good, but ornery sense of humor and could turn a bad situation into a good one with her jokes. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #258, Pierceton. She was proud of her family and dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A list of those who survive includes daughters, Phoebe (Mander) Compton of Claypool; and Corissa (Gary) Prater of Pierceton; sons, Christian (Tamara) Yates of Amarillo, Texas; and Matthew Yates of Plymouth; brothers: Okie (Pam) Hall of Claypool; Arthur “Red” (Kathy) Fields of Mentone; and Tommy Fields of Leesburg; and sister, Irene (Jim) Black of Etna Green. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ronnie Fields and a grandson Christian.
A visitation is scheduled from 2-8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11, in Free United Baptist Church, 7035 South SR 13 Warsaw. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 12, with Pastor Ward “Etsie” Allen officiating. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Claypool. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw is entrusted with arrangements.
