Philip D. ‘Flip’ Beer
Philip D. “Flip” Beer, 88, of Milford, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 30, 2018. He was born May 1, 1930, to Theo and Naoma Beer. On June 7, 1953, Beerl married Mildred Mary Roecker, who preceded him in death on June 14, 2002. Together, they shared 49 years of marriage. On July 15, 2004, he married Lisa Kuhn Geiger, who survives.
He was born and raised in Milford, graduating from Milford High School. He was drafted into the Army in August, 1951 completing basic training at Fort Meade before being stationed overseas as a medic in Korea with the 7th Medic Battalion of the 7th Infantry Division.
He was a hard worker and dedicated member of his local communities. He was a member of various boards, such as the Soil and Water Conservation Board, president of Syracuse Economic Development Commission, president of Kosciusko Board of Realtors, president of CRB Chapter of Indiana, Kosciusko County PTABOA and director of Indiana Association of Realtors and was a member of the Milford Apostolic Christian Church.
Beer, along with his son and daughter, ran Beer Realtors and Beer Appraisal Company, where he worked until retiring in 2008. After retiring, he did not slow down, volunteering for many years as a redcoat at I.U. Goshen Hospital.
At the young age of 65, he began hiking the Appalachian trail and walked a part of it in every state. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved the Lord and leaves a legacy that touched many lives in the communities of Kosciusko County.
Beer is survived by his wife Lisa, nine children, Teresa Beer of Greeley, Colo., Janet Chomyn of Boulder, Colo., Peggy (Gustavo) Romero of Boston, Mass., Christy (Kent) Doty of Milford, John (Ronda) Beer of Milford, Philip (Debbie) Beer of Noblesville, Heather Gutwein of Carmel, Heidi (Stephen) Rozow of CA, and Benjamin (Kara) Beer of Bluffton, 20 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Also surviving are four siblings, Marguerite (husband Robert) Hoerr, Miriam Speicher, Rebecca (husband Pete) Doll, Bernard (Peg) Beer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Mildred and two siblings.
Friends and family will gather for a celebration of Phil’s life on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 10 a.m. at the Milford Apostolic Christian Church. Ministers Randy and Jesse Beer will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Milford Cemetery with Military honors provided by the United States Army and the American Legion Post 226.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 4 from 2 to 7 p.m. at Mishler Funeral Home and Cremation Center and one hour prior to service Wednesday at the church.
