Two Face Charges After Drugs Are Discovered In Vehicle
WARSAW — A Burket woman and a Tippecanoe man are facing charges after drugs were found in the vehicle they were traveling in.
Cora Gail Warstler, 22, 210 E. South St., Burket, and Douglas E. Marsillett II, 28, 3450 18B Road, Tippecanoe, are both being charged with possession of methamphetamine with enhancing circumstances, level 5 felonies; and possession of paraphernalia, class C misdemeanors.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Tuesday, Nov. 20, an officer with the Warsaw Police Department was driving behind a Chevrolet Malibu on North SR 15 in the area of Jalynn Street. As the officer got closer to the Chevrolet Malibu, the driver of the Malibu began driving erratically. The flashers of the Malibu were then activated and the driver of the vehicle braked hard and pulled off the right shoulder of the roadway. The officer pulled in behind the vehicle.
The officer identified the driver as Warstler and the male passenger as Marsillett II. Both Warstler and Marsillett II reportedly appeared extremely nervous and gave conflicting stories as to a problem with the mechanics of the vehicle. While the officer was speaking with Marsillett II outside the vehicle, Warstler moved into the passenger seat.
The officer discovered that Warstler’s license was suspended. Marsillett II then got into the driver’s seat. The officer found that Marsillett II did not possess a valid driver’s license. Another officer used his K-9 to perform an outer air search of the vehicle, with the K-9 making a positive alert for the presence of drugs.
Officers searched the vehicle and found a woman’s purse containing digital scales with a crystal residue and a pocket mirror containing a white powdery residue. Between the center console and the passenger seat, officers reportedly discovered a cut straw that contained a white powder residue and a plastic bag that contained a wet, crystal-like substance. Officers field-tested the wet, crystal-like substance, the crystal residue on the digital scales, the white powdery residue on the mirror and the powdery residue in the cut straw, with all testing positive for methamphetamine.
Officers spoke with Warstler, who admitted she knew the digital scales were in her purse. She advised the drug-related items in the vehicle did not belong to her. Warstler told police she last used methamphetamine a couple weeks ago and that she thought Marsillett II had stopped using drugs.
Marsillett II did not wish to speak with officers, but police noted he had scabs and needle track marks on his hands.
Both Marsillett II and Warstler were booked at the Kosciusko County Jail on Nov. 20 on $5,250 surety and cash bonds.
