Pauline Firestone
Pauline Firestone, 100, formerly of Syracuse, passed away at 6:20 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at Courtyard Healthcare Center in Goshen. She was born on May 10, 1918, in Syracuse to Cleotus F. “Clee” and Virgie Mae (Ward) Hibschman.
She graduated in 1936 from Syracuse High School and on Feb. 26, 1939, in Syracuse she married Louis E. Firestone who preceded her on Nov. 11, 1985. She was a homemaker and retired in 1983 from Wawasee Community School Corporation as a cafeteria cook for Wawasee High School in Syracuse after 20 years. She was a lifetime Syracuse area resident until she moved to Mishawaka in January 2005 to be with her son for healthcare.
She was a member of the Syracuse Church of God and formerly attended the Syracuse Senior Citizens & St. Mark’s Church in Mishawaka.
She is survived by three daughters: Martha (George) Yerger, Newville, Penn.; Mary Jo (Samuel) Lundy, Leesburg; Peggy Halsey, Syracuse; four sons: Jerry (Barbara) Firestone, Noblesville; Tom (Shirley) Firestone, Elkhart; Gary (Melinda) Firestone, South Bend; David Firestone, Mishawaka; 18 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Martha Franks, two brothers: Oliver and Leonard Hibschman, and son in law, John Halsey.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home with Pastor Stan Owen and Pastor George Yerger officiating. Burial will take place in the Syracuse Cemetery.
