Man Arrested After Accepting Ride From Officer While In Possession Of Drugs
KOSCIUSKO — A Silver Lake man was recently arrested after he accepted a ride from a police officer but then denied the ride when the officer informed him he would have to be searched. The man was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Jonathon Lee Carnes, 31, 45 N. Bluegill Road, Silver Lake, is being charged with possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony, and possession of paraphernalia, a class C misdemeanor.
On Nov. 3, an officer with the Claypool Police Department passed a male subject walking on the side of SR 15. Due to the cold weather, the officer stopped to check on the man’s welfare. The man identified himself as Carnes.
The officer asked Carnes if he wanted a ride and Carnes accepted. But when the officer told Carnes he would need to search him first, Carnes told the officer he no longer wanted the ride. The officer asked Carnes if he had any illegal items on him, to which Carnes advised he was in possession of paraphernalia.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the officer discovered a glass pipe and a bag of methamphetamine on Carnes’ person.
