Recent Bus Stop Tragedy Discussed By Mentone Town Board
MENTONE — “We really appreciate the community coming together on this tragedy that we’ve had,” said Mentone Town Board member Tim Croy at Monday night’s regular meeting of the three-person panel. “To me, we’re fortunate to live in the community that we’re in.”
Croy referred to the accident Oct. 30 west of Talma that killed three Tippecanoe Valley school children and seriously injured a fourth. The board announced a barbecue dinner to benefit the families of those victims — Alivia Stahl, 9, and her 6-year-old twin brothers, Xzavier and Mason Ingle, who were killed in the crash, along with 11-year-old Maverik Lowe, who continues to recover from serious injuries when the four were struck by a pickup truck while getting on the bus.
The benefit is scheduled for Nov. 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Tippecanoe Valley High School auxiliary gymnasium. The benefit will provide monetary relief to those families by way of a freewill donation.
The board also heard and approved a request from Town Marshal James Eads for three body cameras and two in-car cameras. The cost of the cameras will be $12,500.05. The cameras will be purchased from a company called Watch Guard and Eads said delivery would be approximately two to three weeks.
“There is no software maintenance on these or anything like that,” Eads said. “Those are downloaded to a thumb drive and then those can be put, through their software, on a hard drive.”
Water Superintendent Joshua Shepherd gave the board a progress report on the installation of storm catch basins and the upcoming installation of sewer pipe liners.
