Syracuse Library Hosts Final Frankenstein Tribute
SYRACUSE — A grant from the Indiana Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities has presented the people of Indiana and the Syracuse Public Library with a year of great programs about Mary Shelley’s book, “Frankenstein.”
Guest speakers have led discussions that have focused on gothic literature and the connections to science. A popular event was an evening where local people read original and Frankenstein-inspired stories. The last, “One State/One Story: Frankenstein” is a repeat of the open mic evening that this time looks at stories about outsiders.
“FrankenHowl 2” is a chance for writers to share three to five-minute selections on Friday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. The front doors of the library open 15 minutes early for seating in the upper lounge area. Plenty of seating is available for audience members. Several authors and the Friends used-books will be offered for sale.
Geocaching Event
The prevalence of phones with apps and internet connection has made scavenger hunting much easier to coordinate while using GPS. Geocaching, the world-wide activity that uses GPS and a tracking site, is more popular than ever. The final entries in the annual Geocaching short film contest are being shown on Saturday, Nov. 10 at noon. The hour of fun clips is a good way to meet local people and see stories from around the world.
