TRITON 48, WINAMAC 18
Triton ran the ball for a season-high 260 rushing yards and five touchdowns, and the Trojans collected a lopsided 48-18 win at Winamac Friday night to advance to the Class A Sectional 41 championship game next week.
Ethan Berry rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown — the game’s first from six yards out in the first quarter — Delano Shumpert carried the ball twice for 63 yards and two TDs during a critical 20-point third quarter by the visitors, and Hunter McIntyre ran for 41 yards and the Trojans’ final touchdown in the fourth period. Berry also hauled in a 67-yard touchdown pass that gave the Trojans 14-7 lead with Brandon Lenker’s second extra-point kick in the opening stanza, and James Snyder threw another, 20-yard TD strike to Tye Orsund that ballooned Triton’s advantage to 41-10 in the fourth. Snyder finished the night 6-9-1 for 218 passing yards, while Warriors quarterback Russell Compton finished 17-30-1 for 198 yards on a prolific passing night in Winamac.
Kyle Chumley ran for 114 yards and a touchdown to lead a Warrior offense that finished with 359 total offensive yards to Triton’s 478.
Nate Riggins finished with 11 tackles, while Shumpert recorded six, and Koby Mast had five to lead the Triton defense. Dylan Fox’s four tackles paced Winamac’s defense.
Winamac closes at 5-6, while Triton moves to 8-3 on the season and advances to play North Judson-San Pierre for the Sectional 41 championship next week. The Bluejays advanced Friday with a 42-25 win at South Central (Union Mills). The Trojans beat the Jays by a 37-29 margin in North Judson the last time the two teams played back on Sept. 28.
NORTHWOOD 52, EAST NOBLE 35
Bronson Yoder continued to light up the scoreboard and carry his team as the Panthers rolled on in Kendallville.
Yoder rushed for 337 yards and three touchdowns and also passed for another as the Panthers move to the Class 4-A Sectional 19 sectional championship game at Angola next Friday. Yoder’s scoring runs came from 44, eight and two yards while he also passed to Jaden Miller for a 12-yard score.
Nate Newcomer had a hand in three two-point conversions, running for two and passing for one to Miller, kicked an extra point, added a 35-yard field goal, and picked off the final pass of the game and ran it back 97 yards for the game’s final six points.
Kaiden Hershberger led the Knights (9-2) with 185 total yards, 128 of those on the ground, and four total touchdowns.
East Noble had pulled with five at 33-28 with 58 seconds left in the third quarter after Harshberger busted off a 64-yard touchdown run, which came on the heels of another Harshberger run just a minute before that. But the Panthers answered with a seven play, 64-yard drive capped by Yoder’s two-yard run to reclaim an 11-point lead.
No. 1 NorthWood (11-0) will visit No. 3 Angola (11-0) in the sectional championship, the Hornets coming off an impressive 34-0 shutout of Northridge.
MINNESOTA 38, INDIANA 31
Tanner Morgan passed for 302 yards and three touchdowns in his first career start, including the tiebreaking 67-yard scoring toss to Rashod Bateman with 1:34 remaining that gave Minnesota a 38-31 victory on a rainy Friday night after Indiana rallied with 22 straight fourth-quarter points.
Morgan, a redshirt freshman who replaced injured true freshman Zack Annexstad, completed 17 of 24 attempts for the Gophers (4-4, 1-4 Big Ten).
After Peyton Ramsey capped a third fourth-quarter touchdown drive for the Hoosiers (4-5, 1-5) with a 2-point conversion pass to Donavan Hale, the teams traded punts.
When Minnesota regained possession, Morgan dropped back on the first play and hit Bateman in stride on a go route up the hashmark. Indiana took over at its 25, but Ramsey fumbled it and Minnesota ran out the clock.
Ramsey went 29 for 44 for 232 yards, two scores and two interceptions. He ran eight times for 57 yards.
