Inside the Simon Estate In Carmel Sale
CARMEL — Here’s your first look at items that will be auctioned off from the former Simon estate in Carmel next month.
Bren Simon, widow of the late real estate developer Melvin Simon, donated their Asherwood estate to the Great American Songbook Foundation in January. The millions of dollars worth of art, furniture and fixtures inside the palatial 50,000-square-foot mansion hit the auction block November 17, with proceeds benefiting the foundation.
Eyewitness News got to check out those items Thursday. They include beautiful chandeliers, including a pair of green chandeliers hanging in a living room, which the auctioneers said they believe will draw a lot of interest at auction. There is also art from every room in the house including some intended for children’s bedrooms, plus a substantial portion of the estate’s vast library of antique books.
Items not in your price range? The public will be invited to tour the home Nov. 10-11 and Nov. 16. Admission is $25 with proceeds going to support the charity.
November’s auction only includes roughly 1,000 possessions from inside the mansion – not the home itself, or the 107 acre property with its two golf courses and separate 5,000-square-foot guest house. The foundation is currently seeking proposals from real estate brokers about the best way to market and sell the property itself to developers or other potential buyers.
