Britton And Knight Close At State Quarterfinals
INDIANAPOLIS — Warsaw’s No. 1 doubles team of Spencer Britton and Nolan Knight closed out their season with a loss in the quarterfinals at the IHSAA State Doubles Finals Friday.
Britton and Knight fell 6-1, 6-2 to Center Grove’s Nic Ballesteros and Grant Herron. Herron and Ballesteros advanced to play Leo’s Eli Herran and Isaac Steiner in the quarterfinals at Park Tudor High School Saturday morning after their 6-1, 6-0 victory over Columbus North’s Nathan Lin and Adam Saad. Also in Friday’s doubles tourney, Carmel’s Timmy Dixson and Garrett Lloyd defeated Brownsburg’s Adam Prichard and Gunnar Reffeitt, 6-3, 6-1, while Munster’s Zach Schmidt and Frank Wolf beat Jeffersonville’s Colby Kayrouz and Blake Winchell, 6-2, 7-6(4).
Meanwhile in the quarterfinals of Friday’s state singles tournament, Aaron Thompson of Evansville Mater Dei beat South Bend St. Joseph’s Thomas Pries, 6-3, 6-2, and Perry Meridian’s Sajin Smith put away Bellmont’s Cole Shifferly, 6-0, 6-0. Thompson will play Carmel’s Presley Thienenman, and Smith will play Park Tudor’s Aidan Harris.
Britton and Knight closed their senior seasons with a record of 8-9 according to the IHSAA.They won the Portage Doubles Regional with a 2-6, 6-2, 7-6(5) win over Angola’s Luke Hottell and Nick Boyd and a 6-2, 7-5 championship victory over Kankakee Valley’s Garrett Brewster and Nolan McKim last Saturday. They won the Culver Academies Doubles Sectional title with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Triton’s Chase Butler and Carter Kuntz after moving into the doubles tournament following Warsaw’s 3-2 loss to Peru in the semifinals of the CMA team regional.
