Kosciusko
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department investigated the following accidents:
6:41 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, SR 19, south of CR 75N, Etna Green. Driver: Zachariah Hughes, 24, CR 250N, Winamac. Hughes struck a raccoon with his vehicle. Damages up to $10,000.
4:02 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, SR 15, south of CR 950S, Silver Lake. Drivers: Ronald Prater, 63, La Vista Drive, Warsaw; and Jarell May, 53, Epworth Forst Road, North Webster. May stated she observed Prater’s vehicle start to hydroplane and had no time to avoid the head-on collision. Prater told officers he believed something broke in his vehicle, causing it to enter the opposite lane of traffic. May and a passenger in Prater’s vehicle Cassandra Schnitz, 31, Akron, were transported to area hospitals for their injuries. Damages up to $25,000.
4 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, CR 900, west of CR 425, Milford. Driver: Larry Stewart, 23, Main Street, Etna Green. Stewart’s vehicle left the roadway, went into a ditch and rolled. The vehicle came to rest in a nearby bean field. After the accident, Stewart removed the license plate from the vehicle and walked to Milford. While talking with Stewart, officers could smell the odor of alcohol. A portable breath test was administered and provided a result of .11 BAC. Stewart told officers he consumed the alcohol after the accident because he was nervous. Stewart also had no insurance on his vehicle. Damages up to $25,000.
12:34 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, SR 25, west of CR 600W, Mentone. Driver: Ismael Ramirez, 45, Bike Street, Bremen. Ramirez lost control of his vehicle, which came to rest on its side in a nearby yard. Both Ramirez and a witness claimed a tire on Ramirez’ vehicle was “wobbling” before the accident. Damages up to $10,000.
Warsaw
Officers with the Warsaw Police Department investigated the following accident:
10:45 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, Jaylnn Street and Walton Boulevard, Warsaw. Drivers: Gary Huffman, 50, Noelwood Drive, Goshen; and Ida Silver, 19, CR 350S, Warsaw. Huffman began to cross Jalynn Street and his vehicle collided with Silver’s vehicle. Silver had the right-of-way. Damages up to $10,000.
