Ronald Keith Hutcherson — UPDATED
Ronald Keith Hutcherson, “Coach Hutch,” 78, passed away at 10:10 a.m., Oct. 7, 2018, at Parkview Regional Medical Center. He was born Oct. 21, 1939, in Bloomington, son of Albert and Geneva Hutcherson.
He is survived by wife Ruth Ann (Dyer) Hutcherson of 58 years, son Ronald “Scott” (Melanie) Hutcherson, daughter Kari Ann Hutcherson, brothers Jerry, Denny and Jeff “Buddy,” sisters Jeanie Campbell and Debbie Duncan and three grandchildren of Scott (Melanie) Hutcherson, Kayla Lee, Danielle Nicole and Jacob Keith.
Hutcherson graduated from Indiana University with a Health and PE Bachelor degree, a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education and served four years in the Navy Reserves.
He taught and coached many students and athletes throughout his career, starting in Lebanon, then to Skokie, Ill. and finishing in Warsaw. He taught for 54 years with the last 14 at Sacred Heart. He was mostly known as a teacher and coach however, he had many of his own personal accomplishments. In 1957, he won the Indiana State Wrestling Tournament as a junior year in high school and finished runner-up his senior year. He was also a Big Ten Wrestling Champion while at Indiana University and was ranked in the nation in the 65+ age group in Raquetball. He coached several wrestlers who became wrestling State Champions and led multiple teams to success at Indiana State Wrestling Tournaments. His love for the students he taught and the athletes he coached was limitless.
A “Celebration of Life” service let by Pastor Denny Wilson will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, at WCC. Military honors will be rendered by American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126. Visitation will be held after the service until 6 p.m. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
