WINONA LAKE – Grace had a handful of its athletes named to the various sport’s weekly honors.
Alexa Hill and Caylie Teel shared three awards on Monday for Grace’s volleyball team.
Hill was named the NCCAA National Player of the Week and the Crossroads League Setter of the Week, and Teel was honored as the CL Attacker of the Week.
Hill’s impressive year continued with 11.1 assists/set last week. She topped 50 assists in all three matches, including a 54-assist, 18-dig performance to upset No. 18 St. Francis.
Additionally, Hill added 2.6 digs and 0.5 blocks/set. Hill had 57 assists and seven digs to beat Taylor as well as 55 assists and 14 digs against Huntington.
Teel produced at least 16 kills and a double-double in every match last week to lead Grace’s attack. She had 18 kills and 15 digs to upset No. 18 St. Francis. Against Taylor, Teel had 16 kills, 15 digs, 1 solo block and 2 block assists.
The Lady Lancers travel to Michigan on Friday and Saturday for a tournament hosted by Cornerstone and Aquinas.
Bethany Blackwood of Grace’s women’s soccer team repeated as the NCCAA National Defender of the Week on Monday.
Additionally, she was named the Crossroads League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for the second time this year.
Blackwood registered her sixth straight shutout by beating Bethel 5-0 and No. 18 Taylor 1-0. She made five saves to upset Taylor on the road.
Grace (12-1) remarkably has 10 shutouts in its first 13 matches, which leads the NAIA. The Lady Lancers host a pair of matches this week, including Indiana Wesleyan on Wednesday and Mt. Vernon Nazarene on Saturday.
The Crossroads League recognized Kurt Hamlin as the Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Hamlin earned the honor for Grace’s men’s soccer team with a pair of shutouts. He made a combined 10 saves in 195 minutes in goal.
Hamlin’s seven saves against Taylor secured a 0-0 draw as Grace played both overtime periods with 10 players after receiving a red card late in regulation. He is currently riding a streak of six straight shutouts.
The Lancers are on the road Wednesday at Indiana Wesleyan.
