Female Faces OWI Charges After Striking Police Vehicle
KOSCIUSKO — A Leesburg woman is facing criminal charges after striking a police vehicle while driving under the influence.
Around 8:19 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, KCSD Sgt. Travis Shively was called to the area of CR 450N to respond to a reckless driver. Shively reported seeing a vehicle approaching his and reported seeing her headlights swerving back and forth.
He slowed his vehicle down and engaged his emergency lights, but the vehicle struck his police vehicle and continued eastbound. Shively turned his vehicle around and caught up with Zalonis’ vehicle was able to make a traffic stop.
The driver is identified as Elayne T. Zalonis, 54, East CR 450N, Leesburg. She was charged with operating while intoxicated and failing to stop after an accident. She was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
Damages from the accident were estimated at up to $10,000.
