North Webster Community Public Library Announces Upcoming Events
NORTH WEBSTER — The North Webster Community Public Library will host the following events in October:
The robots are coming! A group of robots, on loan from Indiana State Library, will be visiting the Youth Department at North Webster Community Public Library Oct. 11 to 22. Seven age-specific programs are planned for children ages four to 12.
The first program, Lego Wedo, will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, in which kids ages seven to 10 will use Legos to build a robot and bring it to life using computer programming skills and engineering principles. Other programs for various age groups using other types of robots are scheduled for 4 p.m. Oct. 15, 17, 18, and 22; and 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Oct. 19. Each program can accommodate eight participants and an unlimited number of spectators. Advance registration is required to participate and children can register for only one program. However they can come and watch as many times as they want. Detailed information is available at the youth services desk where registrations are currently being accepted.
Registrations are also being accepted for the library’s next Coffee and Canvas at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13. Artist Karla Hayden will provide instructions for painting a wooden “Happy Fall” sign. Class cost is $20 and includes a 12″ x 12″ wood plaque, painting supplies and refreshments. Advance registration with non-refundable payment is due by Oct. 11. Adults can sign up and pay at the circulation desk.
The library’s Local History and Genealogy Center will host an All Day Genealogy session Monday, Oct. 8. Family historians are encouraged to bring their laptop computers and share their genealogy website subscriptions and other resources with fellow genealogists. By sharing resources and research ideas, new information might be uncovered to add to family histories. The center’s public computers, including free access to ancestry.com and other genealogy websites, will also be available in addition to the center’s collection of genealogy resources. The doors open at 10 a.m. Patrons are welcome to come for a while or stay the whole day. Bring snacks to share.
The October Reading Contest is underway and it’s a real thriller. Read a suspense book, then enter the book’s title, along with your name and phone number, in the October drawing for a chance to win a prize. You can read and enter as many suspense books as you like throughout the month. The more books you read, the better your chances of winning. The drawing will be the first week in November.
