Couple Arrested After Police Say Argument Got Physical
WARSAW — Police say a Warsaw couple let an argument get out of hand and resorted to violence in front of children, causing both to be arrested on domestic violence-related charges.
Zachary Darryn Johnson, 27, 614 East Main St., Warsaw and Ashley Ann Gerber, 24, 415 Kincaide St., Warsaw were both charged with domestic battery with a child under 16 present, a level 6 felony and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.
According to police, officers with the Warsaw Police Department responded to a report of a domestic dispute in Warsaw on Sunday, Sept. 23. When officers arrived at the residence, police reported finding Gerber at the residence with blood on her shirt and pants and holding an ice pack to her face. She reportedly told police that during an argument, she instigated a reaction from Johnson, which caused him to punch her in the face.
Officers went to Johnson’s mother’s house and talked to him. He told officers that Gerber hit him first and that he retaliated by hitting her in the face. Police also talked to a witness who said she saw Johnson drag Gerber back inside the house and hit her in the face.
Police reported that a two-year-old child belonging to the couple was present in the home during the altercation. Gerber has not been scheduled to appear in court at present, but Johnson is scheduled to appear for an initial hearing in Superior Court III on Oct. 18 at 8:15 a.m.
