Girls Soccer Results: Sept. 27
LAKELAND CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 3, BREMEN 1
It was a fine finish for LCA Thursday.
The Academy not only won its final home contest over Bremen, but also played for a bigger cause in raising funds for cancer research while playing on the hallowed pitch at First Source Field at Grace College.
Anna Reimink was in on all three goals for LCA, notching the first on her own in the 13th minute, then assisting to Jessi Calizo before the half.
The Reimink to Calizo connection was the hookup in the second half, putting LCA out of reach at 3-0. Bremen scored its only goal late in the second half.
“We played a tough team tonight and I was very pleased with how we responded,” said LCA head coach Nat Raber. “The girls played hard in a physical game and came out on top. It is always good to get a win on senior night.”
The game was tied to a cancer fundraiser put on by LCA, which was also connected to the boys game later in the evening against Rochester. Grace hosted the two games in a joint effort to make the night special.
LCA moves its regular season mark to 11-2-2 overall. LCA will look forward to a sectional preview Saturday against Elkhart Christian Academy, which is the Tuesday matchup at the Westview Sectional.
NORTHWOOD 0, WAWASEE 0
Offense was at a premium in the final contest of the regular season for the Warriors and Panthers Thursday night.
Neither team could make a breakthrough on the speedy turf in Syracuse, settling for a draw.
Graceanne Kerlin made 15 saves for the Warriors, which finish 0-6-1 in the Northern Lakes Conference and without a goal scored in league play. The draw breaks a four-game losing streak for Wawasee.
NorthWood, which has scored just one goal in its past four contests (0-3-1), did have Kira Robinson pitch her seventh shutout of the season. NorthWood ends its NLC calendar 1-4-2 overall, only giving up seven goals in league play despite the sixth-place finish in the standings.
Both teams will take aim at the DeKalb Sectional next week. Wawasee (2-12-2) will enter sectional play Tuesday against Angola while NorthWood (6-6-4) will play Thursday against West Noble.
