Warsaw Man Arrested After June Stabbing Incident
WARSAW — A Warsaw man was arrested after stabbing a male subject in June.
Darren Allen Diaz, 36, 223 W. Jefferson St. 14, Warsaw, is being charged with domestic battery while armed with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony; and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor.
On June 24, an officer with the Warsaw Police Department responded to a fight in progress at an apartment.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the officer spoke with Diaz, who had blood around his mouth. Diaz told the officer he’d been fighting with a male subject, identified as Homer Joe Knight. Knight approached the officer and said he had been stabbed. He was bleeding from his arm and chest.
Diaz said as a result of him smacking Knight on the butt, Knight hit and kicked Diaz on the head several times, knocking him unconscious. When he regained consciousness he attempted to call 911 but Knight would not let Diaz use the phone. Diaz said he then grabbed a kitchen knife and started stabbing Knight.
Knight spoke with officers. He said Diaz smacked him on the butt, which was sore from playing softball. He then hit Diaz on the head and the two started wrestling. During the altercation, Knight said Diaz got mad, grabbed two knives, and said, “I stabbed you, I stabbed you.” Knight sustained a knife cut on his arm that required several stitches and he had a shallow wound on his back.
Officers were given permission to search the apartment. They discovered a square plate used for rolling cigarettes, several pieces of marijuana, a metal grinder and several packages of rolling papers. Two kitchen knives with blood stains were also on the floor.
As a result of the altercation, Diaz sustained a concussion, fractured nasal bones, a fractured jaw and abrasions on his back, head and hands.
Diaz was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail on Sept. 26, with a $10,250 surety and cash bond.
Knight currently has a warrant out for his arrest. He faces two charges of domestic battery.
