Patricia E. Birk
Patricia E. (McGaffey) Birk, 81, Culver, died peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, in Culver.
The daughter of Lawrence Ward and Margaret Adeline (Hodge) McGaffey, she was born Oct. 16, 1936, in
Fort Wayne. She lived in Culver most of her life.
She is a 1954 graduate of Culver High School. On Feb. 23, 1957, she married Arthur “Art” Birk who
preceded her in death on July 6, 2009.
She was involved in and was a member in many community organizations, Grace United Church of Christ, Culver Lions
Club, Maxinkuckee Rebekah Lodge, Culver United Fund, Culver Ambulance Service, Manxinkuckee Players &
Singers, Boys & Girls Club, Boy & Girl Scout leader, Gift of warmth. She served various positions including
dispatching for the ambulance for 25 years. She was a past president of Culver Lions Club, Past District
Governor and a Melvin Jones Fellow. She served most organizations long periods of time.
She is survived by her children William Birk and Ruth Birk, Ruth’s partner Kingdon Brady and granddog Ella, three
sisters, Beverly (James) Baker, Marjorie Humes, and Sharon (Gary) Randel.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Her body was donated to science.
A Celebration of Life is going to be held at 11 a.m., Oct. 13, at Grace United Church of Christ in
Culver.
The family request in lieu of flowers or plants that memorials be given to: Indiana Lions Eye Bank, American
Cancer Society, or Grace United Church of Christ.
