Girls Soccer Results: Sept. 24
FORT WAYNE CARROLL 2, WARSAW 0
In a battle of state-ranked powers, Fort Wayne Carroll shut out Warsaw on its home turf.
The matchup, rescheduled from early August because of field condition issues, saw No. 17 Carroll take advantage of a short-handed No. 8 Warsaw side in the second half to pot both of its goals. Warsaw, playing down players to injury and illness, let off the gas in anticipation of Thursday’s Northern Lakes Conference championship showdown with also-unbeaten Northridge.
“Carroll did a great job setting the tone for the game,” stated Warsaw head coach Jon Hoover. “We didn’t stay composed enough to win today, but I am confident in our chances Thursday. We should be at full strength and ready to compete for an NLC championship by Thursday.”
Warsaw (10-3-1) will meet Northridge Thursday at 7 p.m., with both teams 6-0 in the NLC. Northridge, which tied Warsaw last season on the final day, is the defending champion.
PLYMOUTH 2, NORTHWOOD 0
A quick goal by Plymouth was a primer for a Pilgrim win Tuesday.
Julia Kinney beat Kira Robinson for a goal in the fifth minute, and a second goal by Lauren Rumper in the 34th minute put Plymouth out of reach. The match was called in the 70th minute due to inclement weather.
Plymouth outshot NorthWood 8-4, and used Cece Robinson’s four saves to finish its NLC season at 5-2 overall. Kira Robinson had six saves for NorthWood, which is 1-4-1 in NLC play with one game left Thursday against Wawasee.
Plymouth won the JV game 2-0. Stats for the junior contest were not provided.
LAKELAND CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 7, CULVER 0
LCA overcame a slow start to run past Culver.
Anna Reimink opened the game’s scoring, which would become a theme later as Reimink would score four total goals in the contest. Sisters Tori and Jessi Calizo scored the other three, the elder Tori getting two of those goals.
Maddie Paris made all of the offense stand up in net, making just three saves for the clean sheet.
“We played one of our better games,” stated LCA head man Nat Raber. “We controlled the ball and the tempo of the game. We have a few things to clean up, but I am happy for the way our team played.”
With the win, LCA moves to 10-2-2 on the season with a final regular season test Thursday at First Source Field at the Miller Athletic Complex on the campus of Grace College. LCA will be playing Bremen in a Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund matchup in a fundraising fight to help the KCCF’s local work with cancer patients and their families. The LCA boys will also play that night against Rochester at First Source Field. The games start at 5 p.m.
