WARSAW 3, WAWASEE 1
Warsaw kept its hope alive of a share of the Northern Lakes Conference soccer pie with a win over Wawasee Saturday in Tiger Town.
Gustav Dannervig got Warsaw on the board in the 14th minute on a pass from Blake Burns and Burns put the game away with a goal in the 63rd minute. Warsaw also scored on a Jorge Rico goal in the 59th minute.
Wawasee (4-10, 0-5 NLC) actually tied the match in the 35th minute when Ethan Carey found gold on a pass from Chris Pena.
In the JV contest, Ashton Wade and Brandon Lopez both scored to push Warsaw to a 2-0 win over Wawasee. Daniel Warner assisted on both goals to keep Warsaw undefeated in the JV ranks at 12-0-2.
No. 12 Warsaw closes its regular season Thursday at home against No. 5 Northridge. The Tigers are 4-0-2 in the NLC while Ridge sits at 5-0 in the NLC after thumping Plymouth, 6-0, Saturday afternoon. The Raiders take on Wawasee Tuesday to try to keep its slate clean ahead Thursday’s clash.
FORT WAYNE CONCORDIA 4, NORTHWOOD 1
Adam Gottschalk had a goal and two assists to lead the Class 2-A No. 7 Cadets to a big win at NorthWood.
Luke Aumick, Elijah Zullman and Luke Neuhaus also scored for Concordia, which outshot NorthWood 24-4. Mike Gill made three saves in net for Concordia.
JD Schuller and Ty Koenig added assists in the victory.
NorthWood’s stats were not provided.
The Panthers fall to 5-7-1 overall and will visit John Glenn Monday.
TIPPECANOE VALLEY 1-1 AT WINAMAC TOURNEY
A tough 2-1 loss in game one rebounded with an exciting 4-3 win in game two as part of Valley’s action at the Winamac Tourney.
Valley took on the host Warriors in game one. Down 2-0 with seven minutes remaining, Joel Cisneros pulled the Vikings within one with a goal. Alex Aguilar looked to have pulled Valley even, but his conversion was waived off to an offsides call.
In the consolation game against Washington Township, Valley trailed 3-0 in the second half only to storm back and steal a win. Harrison Vining got Valley on the board with a penalty kick make, then Caleb Pentgen worked a hat trick, finishing the game winner eight minutes from time off a header on a corner sent in by Vining.
Valley (3-11) wraps up its regular season Tuesday at Argos then at home Thursday against LaVille.
