Boys Soccer Results: Sept. 20
WAWASEE 3, LAKELAND 0
A goal just before half gave Wawasee a boost in its final home game and non-conference match.
Chris Pena found the net in the final minute of the first half to help give Wawasee some cushion against its sectional rival. Braedon Schlabach scored Wawasee’s first goal in the 21st minute, and Brandon Tayagua got some help from Chris Pena in the 50th to put Wawasee over.
Dillon Drake made three saves for his second clean sheet of the campaign.
“Wawasee played with fight every minute of the game and the result shots that,” said Wawasee head coach Jordan Sharp. “It was awesome to get this win and also get some players more minutes. It was an emotional night for the seniors as it was their last home game.”
Wawasee (4-9) will travel to Warsaw Saturday for the first of three NLC matches to conclude the regular season.
LAKELAND CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 7, TIPPECANOE VALLEY 0
LCA took an early lead and built upon it in a blowout of visiting Valley.
Parker Stewart scored the first of three goals in the fourth minute, opening a flood gate for the Cougars. Stewart also scored in the 25th and 59th minutes to complete his hat trick, and assisted on two other goals.
Micah Mansfield added two goals, Jake Harmon had a goal and two assists, and Landon Paris scored a goal. Michael Easterling and Landon Twombly both had assists in the contest.
Peter Koller got the start and recorded his first shutout of the season, making just one save on the lone Valley shot of the match. Alexis Hernandez made nine saves for the Vikings.
“We possessed the ball very well tonight,” began LCA head coach Dan Miller. “Everyone on the team was involved and contributed to the win and the shutout. I’m encouraged by the progress we’ve shown on the defensive side of the ball. We stressed set pieces before the match and were able to score off of a free kick from Parker Stewart and a corner kick from Landon Paris.”
LCA moves to 9-3-1 on the season while Valley drops to 2-10. LCA will host Culver Academy Tuesday while Valley visits Argos, also on Tuesday.
WARSAW 1, GOSHEN 1
Warsaw’s hopes of a Northern Lakes Conference took a slight hit Thursday as the Tigers drew even at Goshen.
Ethan Grill had Warsaw’s goal in the first half, but Ciro Aguilar’s equalizer in the second half left the match in a draw.
Harrison Mevis made 10 saves for the Tigers, which are 3-0-2, but didn’t make up any ground on Northridge, which is still 4-0-0 and in first place.
Warsaw (8-2-5, 3-0-2 NLC) will host Wawasee Saturday afternoon.
