Man Arrested For Stealing Vehicle From Local Auto Repair Shop
KOSCIUSKO — A South Bend man was recently arrested after stealing a pickup truck from a local auto repair shop.
Coty Michael Haynes, 27, 1412 Carroll St., South Bend, was booked for auto theft. Bond: $5,750 surety and cash. is being charged with auto theft, a level 6 felony.
On Aug. 22, an officer with the Warsaw Police Department responded to a stolen vehicle at Smith Tire. The victim advised that he parked his pickup truck in the parking lot at Smith Tire at 7 a.m. The victim noticed around 12:40 p.m. that his truck was missing.
An employee advised that around 10 a.m. a white male wearing a red and orange got in the truck and drove away.
The truck was later observed in the parking lot of Hensley Fabrications. The officer spoke with the owner of Hensley Fabrications who stated he observed the pickup truck in his business parking lot. The business owner confronted the driver, who identified himself as Haynes. After Haynes drove away, the business owner discovered that the truck had been stolen and he reported it to the police.
The truck was later located unoccupied at an undisclosed location. According to the probable cause affidavit, a bag of clothes with a document that contained Haynes’ name was discovered in the bed of the truck.
Haynes was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on Sept. 17, with a $5,750 surety and cash bond.
