Award-Winning Poet To Visit Grace College Sept. 24
WINONA LAKE — The Grace College literature, language and communication department is pleased to welcome Marjorie Maddox, professor of English and creative writing at Lock Haven University, to campus this fall. An award-winning poet who has authored 11 collections of poetry and hundreds of short stories and essays, Maddox will read from her published works and sign books at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, in the Morgan Library. Several of her books will be available for purchase and light refreshments will be served. This free event is open to the public.
“Maddox writes movingly and beautifully about faith as it intertwines with love, loss, and ordinary life. She often evokes the liturgy in everyday experiences, like doing laundry, ordering room service, or watching the news,” said Dr. Lauren Rich, chair of the LLC department at Grace College. “This is a chance to hear her poetry read aloud – as all good poetry ought to be – and to experience poetry off-the-shelf, embodied and alive.”
Maddox’s most recent collection of poetry, “Transplant, Transport and Transubstantiation,” is a Yellowglen Prize winner, and a finalist for the Brittingham and Felix Pollak Prizes in Poetry, both awarded by the University of Wisconsin Press. Her collection of short stories, “What She Was Saying,” was a national finalist for the Katherine Anne Porter and Eludi Book Awards and a national semi-finalist for the Spokane, Black Lawrence and Leapfrog Book Prizes.
