Trojans Make Improvements At Portage
PORTAGE – Triton might have finished last at Saturday’s Portage Tennis Invite, but coach Al Peckham saw more than a placard on a scoreboard.
“Last year we had five points, this year nine points,” Peckham noted. “We played better than our place shown.”
Triton had a handful of court wins among its action. John Gardner won his matchup with Portage 6-1, 6-3 at one singles, Jared Bules heat Centerville 6-2, 6-2 at two singles, and the one doubles team of Carter Kuntz and Chase Butler beat Highland 6-4, 6-3.
South Bend St. Joe, ranked No. 16 in the state, won with 48 points, followed by Chesterton with 37 points. Highland and Portage tied with 25 points for third, followed by Bethany Christian (23), Centerville (20), Merrillville (18) and Triton (9).
Triton will host Manchester Tuesday before jumping into the Hoosier North Athletic Conference tournament at Knox on Wednesday and Thursday.
