Lady Lancers Sweep Foresters
WINONA LAKE – Grace’s volleyball team was dominant on Friday night in a convincing 3-0 sweep of Huntington.
The Lady Lancers (10-4, 4-2 Crossroads League) improved to third place in the league standings after hitting .359 as a team.
Grace won the first set 25-17 behind an unstoppable offense. The Foresters held an early lead, but Grace quickly seized control.
The Lady Lancers hit at a sizzling .441 percentage, racking up 16 kills on only one error. Caylie Teel impressed with six kills and four digs in the game.
The second set was also controlled by the Lady Lancers. Teel and Marta Bleed had three kills apiece as Grace cruised to a 25-18 win.
The Foresters (4-10, 1-5 CL) had little left in resistance after falling behind 2-0 in the match. Grace jumped ahead early and never lost that lead. The Lady Lancers coasted to another seven-point win and were never truly threatened.
As a team Grace had a 42-33 advantage in kills, 41-31 in assists, 39-38 in digs and 6-4 in blocks. The Foresters hurt themselves with 20 attack errors en route to a .140 hitting percentage.
Alexa Hill kept Grace’s offense humming by passing out 39 assists to go along with seven digs. Teel led all players with 14 kills and 10 digs, hitting at a strong .357 percentage.
Former Warsaw Lady Tiger standout Hanna Leach tallied four kills at a .571 clip to go along with four block assists, and Bleed produced eight kills.
Kelsee Zuidema had seven kills and a pair of block assists, and Deborah Michalski and Gina Novotny each had seven digs.
The Lady Lancers are off this weekend, resuming play on Wednesday at Goshen.
