Silver Lake Town Council Members Look Into New Water Meters
SILVER LAKE — Todd Ortman of EJP, Lafayette, attended the Silver Lake Town Council meeting to give information about the Sensus iPERL smart water meter and the 520M smart point radio read system. The water meters in town are approximately 18 years old, and the town hopes to be able to replace them within the next year. Ortman explained that the iPERL meters are equipped with alarms to detect issues such as leaks, broken pipes and reverse flow.
“The warranty far surpasses anything else in the industry,” said Ortman. “They actually just upped the warranty this spring on the 520M and the iPERL. The warranty for the battery and electronics in those is 15 years of 100 percent coverage and five years of pro-rated. So the first 15 years if you have any failures out of either of those parts, you would just give them to us and we ship them back and you get a brand new one free of charge with a brand new warranty.”
“I still need to talk to Umbaugh [Umbaugh & Associates, Indianapolis] about a couple of things,” said Silver Lake Clerk-Treasurer Tonya Conley. “We are working to be able to do this. Instead of breaking it up and purchasing some now and some later, we are hoping to be able to get all of it at once.”
Council members agreed to table this issue until next month in order to allow Conley more time to make arrangements with Umbaugh.
Residents Nick and Brittany Denney requested approval to continue keeping their greenhouse in place on their property, which is currently 5 feet away from an alley. They also asked to be allowed to set up a vegetable stand to sell vegetables they have grown. Council members granted approval for the existing greenhouse. The request for a vegetable stand was denied.
