Richard Edwin Sullivan
Richard Edwin “Cappy” Sullivan, 87, Warsaw, passed away Monday September 10, 2018 at 9:45 p.m. at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
He was born on March 30, 1931 to Charles and Corrine (Headstrom) Sullivan in Evergreen Park, Ill.
He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War as a Navy Seabee and was stationed at the Naval Base in Subic Bay in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged.
He married Lois A. Phillips in November of 1962 in Chicago.
He was a retired fulltime Chicago Firefighter serving his community there for 35 years. Then the Sullivans moved to Warsaw in 1991 where he became a Winona Lake volunteer firefighter serving this community for 20 years.
He enjoyed collecting firefighter memorabilia, such as books, antique fire engines, firehouses and many more memorabilia items.
He is survived by his wife, Lois A. Sullivan, Warsaw; a daughter, Martha Ann Sullivan, Warsaw; and a son, Brian Charles Sullivan and (Darrell Kozlowski) of Palos Heights, Ill.; sister in laws, Rita Sullivan, Florida; and Judy Sullivan, South Holland, Ill.
He is preceded by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 13, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 14, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Warsaw with Father Jonathan Norton officiating the Mass.
Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery with Military Honors at a later date.
