Verva McCorkle
Verva McCorkle, 70, North Manchester, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, at Wellbrooke of Wabash.
One of nine children born to Ershel and Mable (Boggs) Calhoun, she was born Nov. 17, 1947, in Prestonsburg, Ky. She spent much of her adult life in Warsaw, recently moving to North Manchester to be closer to her daughter and grandson.
She began working at age 15 as a nurse’s aide near her home in Kentucky. In Indiana, she worked cleaning laundry for several commercial laundry businesses and spent ten years with Warsaw Walmart. She was married on June 26, 1987, to Robert McCorkle who preceded her in passing on Sept. 8, 2000.
Outside of work she enjoyed shopping and tending to her flower gardens. She collected Precious Moments figurines and was always sure to enjoy desert – she loved sweets.
She had a heart for helping people; she was a loving neighbor and a giving person. She was a woman of faith and loved the Lord. She was a member of Harvest Community Church in Pierceton. Finding Christ made her even more kindhearted, a trend that continued with the birth of her grandson, Mason.
In addition to her daughter, Shayla (Christopher) Nordmann, North Manchester; and their son, Mason, Mrs. McCorkle is survived by six siblings, sisters: Verline Nichols, Prestonsburg, Ky.; Birdie (Raymond) Wolfe, Pierceton; Pat Whitaker, Warsaw; and Jessica Calhoun, Glasgow, Ky.; and brothers: John (Teresa) Calhoun and Lester Calhoun, both of Warsaw. She was preceded in passing by her husband, Robert; son, Donald Slone; two brothers, Taylor and Tom Calhoun and sister, Laura Shepherd.
Her life will be celebrated by her family and friends at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 13, in Titus Funeral Home, 2000 East Sheridan Street, Warsaw. Pastor Glenn Hall will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
