NORTHWOOD 43, GOSHEN 14
Bronson Yoder was on a mission Friday night.
The senior all-everything for NorthWood ran for 238 yards, threw for 32 yards, hauled in 32 yards receiving, made seven tackles and even popped the popcorn at Foreman Field. Yoder ran for scores of 79, six and 68 before throwing a touchdown pass to Jake Lone for seven yards in the lopsided win.
Yoder rushed 16 times in the game, averaging nearly 15 yards per carry and even had two punts for 75 yards.
Nate Newcomer added a 35-yard touchdown run and another from eight yards out, totaling 110 yards on the ground on just nine carries.
NorthWood, however, trailed at 7-6 when Daveyon Sandford scored from four yards out with two minutes gone in the second quarter. The Panthers, however, rattled off 24 points in the second quarter and 13 more unanswered in the third to blow the game wide open.
Bryant Grewe paced Goshen (1-3, 0-2 NLC) with 139 yards rushing and a score. Quarterback Wesley VanHooser ran for 77 yards, but was just 2-11 for 14 yards passing.
No. 3 NorthWood (4-0, 2-0 NLC) will visit Wawasee next week. Goshen will head up US 33 to Concord.
CONCORD 49, WAWASEE 28
Wawasee made it interesting late, but spotted Concord too much too early in action at The Jake.
Concord ran out to a 35-0 lead before Wawasee could respond.
Wawasee hadn’t scored a point in its first three games before the fourth quarter, and finally did so with a pair of defensive touchdowns in the third. Jonathon Konieczny recovered a fumble in the endzone for the first score and Levi Brown had a pick-six that cut the Minuteman lead to 21. Concord then responded with a drive for a score just a minute later.
Wawasee had Dylan Hepler return a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown and Evan Eshbach found Gabe Moore for a 30-yard pitch and catch to close out the scoring.
The Warrior again failed to get its rushing game going, racking up just 25 yards on 20 carries. Eshbach completed just 8-25 passes for 86 yards with a touchdown and interception.
Concord (2-2, 2-1 NLC) posted 536 total yards on the night and had 335 of those on the ground. Carter Neveraski ran for 221 yards and two scores, and Kevin Moreina, Max Welch and Romello Moon all ran for scores. Jacob Creek and Julius James both caught touchdown passes.
Wawasee (0-4, 0-2 NLC) will look to recover next week at home against NorthWood.
NORTHFIELD 27, TIPPECANOE VALLEY 7
The long drive to Northfield didn’t find a pot of gold for the green and yellow.
In the battle of Scandinavia, the extremely balanced Norse rushed for 148 yards and passed for 148 yards. The Vikings were able to rush for 151 yards, but struggled in the passing game, throwing for just 61 and tossing three interceptions.
Levi Fulkerson ran for 61 yards and two touchdowns for the Norse. Braden Ripplinger also had a rushing score.
Valley got its only score from Wes Melanson on a five-yard run.
With the win, Northfield (2-2, 1-0) joins Rochester atop of the Three Rivers Conference North Division while Valley sits at 0-1 in the North.
Valley (1-3) will host Whitko next week.
