Volleyball Results: Sept. 6
PLYMOUTH 3 NORTHWOOD 2
NorthWood lost a huge one by the slimmest of margins Thursday in a big Northern Lakes Conference matchup.
Plymouth remained unbeaten in the NLC at 3-0 with a 25-19, 25-21, 20-25, 24-26, 16-14 whopper.
NorthWood lost its first NLC contest in two tries despite big nights from its stars. With the match going five games, Maddy Payne racked up 19 kills, seven blocks and two aces. Kate Rulli added 11 kills, three blocks and two aces and Caroline Mullet had 43 assists and three blocks. Whitney Gessinger led the back line with 31 digs and three assists and Gracie Clark added 15 digs and three aces.
The NorthWood JV came up with a 25-10, 25-20 win over Plymouth. Annika Bennett had 16 assists and Bre Wise added seven digs and four aces.
NorthWood (11-5, 1-1 NLC) will take part in the Concord Tourney Saturday morning.
WAWASEE 3, GOSHEN 2
In one of the bigger surprises of the young season, Wawasee upset Goshen on its home court.
The RedHawks (8-5, 0-3 NLC) started its season winners of eight of its first 10 matches, but have now lost three in a row. Wawasee came into the night having not won a Northern Lakes Conference match in more than five years, but rallied to win 25-21, 25-23, 20-25, 17-25, 15-6.
Elizabeth Kleopfer had herself a big game with 14 assists, 10 digs, seven kills and four aces. Peyton Rookstool had nine digs, Molly Jones and Janae Hapner each had seven kills, Ashley Vazquez had seven assists and Brooke Heche added a pair of aces.
The JV also got a close win, coming back from a 25-24 first game loss to post a 25-22, 17-15 rally. Emma Dippon had 10 kills and two aces to lead the 10-3 Lady Warriors.
The Wawasee freshman team (9-0) won two matches, beating Northridge 25-14, 25-24 and Goshen 25-18, 25-18. Laney Gross was the standout for Wawasee with a combined 17 assists, 10 aces, seven kills and six digs.
Wawasee (6-6, 1-1 NLC) will test its mettle Monday at Westview.
TIPPECANOE VALLEY 3, TRITON 0
A good ol’ backyard rivalry saw Valley withstand Triton 26-24, 25-17, 25-19.
Triton gave Valley all it could handle, with Sydney Musilli posting six digs and four aces. Abbey Viers had seven kills, Dylanie Miller nine assists and Lexia Howstrawser two blocks.
Valley did not immediately release its statistics.
The JV game went to Valley in a 25-23, 25-14.
Valley (9-7) will visit Columbia City on Monday while Triton (2-8) will host its own tournament on Saturday.
LAKEVIEW 8TH GRADE 2, EDGEWOOD 1
In the city bragging rights matches, Lakeview took the eighth grade contest 25-17, 7-25, 15-6.
Caitlyn Patrick paced the team with five kills, five assists and an ace. Tessa Graney added 10 assists and four aces.
Edgewood saw Katie McKibben hang eight aces, six digs, two kills, two aces and a block. Kaylee Weeks added four kills, two assists and an ace.
LAKEVIEW 7TH GRADE 2, EDGEWOOD 0
Lakewood took the seventh grade contest 25-22, 25-19.
Stat leaders for Lakeview included Sadie Humbarger with five kills and five aces, Clara Porter with nine assists, three aces and a kill, and Kenzie Chivington with three aces, two kills and an assist.
Edgewood had Melania Hawblitzel post four kills, four aces and three digs. Paxton Baker added four assists, three digs and an ace.
WAWASEE MS 2, LAKELAND CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 0
Lakeland wasn’t able to catch Wawasee in a 25-15, 25-20 loss.
Maddie Silveus had four aces and two kills and Addisyn Daley added a pair of kills.
Wawasee did not report any statistics.
TIPPECANOE VALLEY 8TH GRADE 2, PERU 1
Tippecanoe won a razor thin match with Peru 25-12, 22-25, 15-14.
Erin McGriff had six aces and three kills for Valley, while Brooke Kamp added six assists and four aces, Shaylin Wilcox hammered four kills and Abby Kohch added two assists.
PERU 7TH GRADE 2, TIPPECANOE VALLEY 1
Another close matchup had Peru win 25-22, 22-25, 15-7.
Jessa Schroeder led the Vikings with seven aces and Ava Smith had five kills.
