Woman’s Body Found In South Bend’s Keller Park
SOUTH BEND — Metro Homicide is investigating after a St. Joseph County police officer found a woman’s body in a wooded area near South Bend’s Keller Park neighborhood.
The call came in around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Metro Homicide said the officer was returning property when the discovery was made.
Police say the woman is white and appears to be in her 20s. They feel confident about her identity.
“We have certain evidence and information we’re comfortable with what we know, but again, I don’t want to talk to somebody and tell them their loved one is dead, and I’m wrong,” said Commander Tim Corbett.
Police blocked off an area around Rose Street and Sherman Avenue to gather additional evidence.
Officers also served a search warrant in St. Joseph County.
Neighbors described seeing a trailer in the area where police found the woman.
“Mostly that go back in that woods is all kids,” said Jamie Andrews. “I mean, what they do back there I have no idea.”
Fellow neighbor Marc Martin emphasized the importance of being vigilant.
“We gotta be on our guard, make sure our doors are locked, watch out for our neighbors and what have or not,” said Martin.
