Tennis Results: Sept. 4
NORTHWOOD 3, PLYMOUTH 2
NorthWood’s boys tennis team earned a thrilling Northern Lakes Conference victory over Plymouth, outlasting its hosts in the sweltering heat Tuesday night, 3-2.
Each of the Panthers’ three victories came at the singles positions. Wes Troyer beat Mitch Rose 7-5, 6-4 at 1 singles, Ben Vincent defeated Andy Rostron 7-6(4), 6-1 at 2 singles, and Landon Holland topped Nick Bagley, 6-2, 6-3 at 3 singles.
Plymouth took both doubles matches, with Clay Hilliard and Adam Hunter defeating Trajan Schwartz and Jack Wysong, 6-1, 6-4, and Drew Harrell and Grant Houin beating Grant Topping and Dawson Bley 6-1, 6-2.
The Panthers JV fell a little short, 4-3.
NorthWood’s varsity moves to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the NLC. NorthWood travels to Goshen on Thursday.
NORTHRIDGE 3, WARSAW 2
Warsaw lost a close match with Northridge, 3-2, Tuesday.
Brian Elliott beat Avery Mantyla 6-4, 6-1 at 3 singles, and Spencer Britton and Nolan Knight downed Brant Brouillette and Cole Miller, 6-3, 6-1 at 1 doubles in the Tigers’ two victories.
Caleb Williams lost in two 6-1 sets to Gabe Rodino and 1 singles, Reuben Williams was shut out 6-0, 6-0 by Cooper Tavernier at 2 singles, and Jarrett Orr and Michael Ray lost 6-0, 6-2 to Aaron Cripe and Evan Nay at 2 doubles.
GOSHEN 5, WAWASEE 0
Wawasee lost an NLC match with Goshen Tuesday, 5-0.
Jacob Krugman and Grant Brooks lost 6-3, 6-0 to Ben Bontrager-Singer and Diego Torres in the closest match at 1 doubles. Colin Rhoades fell 6-2, 6-0 to Carlos Lichty at 3 singles. Zach Leedy and Graham Perek each took just one game from their opponents at 1 and 2 singles, Leedy falling 1-0 to Ryan Harmelink at 1 singles, and Perek succumbing 0-1 to Wes Beck at 2 singles. Clayton Firestone and Zeke Keim were shut out 0-0 at 2 doubles.
Goshen’s JV won 7-0.
The varsity Warriors slipped to 4-7 overall and 0-3 in NLC play.
