Lancers Take Losses At Huntington
HUNTINGTON – Grace’s men’s tennis team was unable to grab a point against Huntington on Wednesday.
The Foresters took advantage off a banged-up Lancers’ squad in a 9-0 sweep. The Lady Lancers went down to the wire, but lost to Huntington 5-4.
Max Rozas and Pavle Popovic had the best shot at No. 1 doubles, falling 9-7. Caleb Yoder and Jacob Gray came up short 8-4 in their match at No. 2 doubles.
Rozas at No. 1 singles and Lucas Fonseca at No. 5 singles both had to retire early due to injury. No remaining Lancer singles’ player was able to force a third set against the Foresters (3-1, 3-1 Crossroads League). Diego Zamora came the closest with a 2-6, 5-7 scoreline at No. 3 singles.
The Lancers (1-2, 1-1 CL) will look to rebound on Thursday with a 3:30 p.m. home match against Goshen at Miller Athletic Complex.
Grace’s women’s tennis team tasted defeat for the first time this year.
The Lady Lancers dropped a marathon match by a 5-4 decision at Huntington on Wednesday.
The match, which lasted close to six hours due to a prolonged men’s match before, came down to the wire.
The Foresters (3-1, 2-1 Crossroads League) won the final singles’ match in the third set after 10 p.m. to secure the 5-4 victory.
The Lady Lancers (3-1, 2-1 CL) will look to bounce back on Friday at 3 p.m. with a match at Spring Arbor.
