WARSAW 1, ELKHART MEMORIAL 1
In a showdown of Northern Lakes Conference contenders, both teams settled for one point after each potted just a goal in a defensive match.
Memorial struck first in the 23rd minute when a soft shot from Mario Perez Alvarado sailed over the hands of Harrison Mevis and under the crossbar for first blood.
Warsaw needed just three minutes of time in the second half to get the equalizer. Garrett Reinholt made a nice run and sent a fetching pass inward toward the Memorial box, which Jose Lara found the pass and connected for the tie.
After losing a pair of games over the weekend at the Fort Wayne Carroll Invite, Warsaw regains some footing to move to 4-2-3 overall and 2-0-2 in the NLC. Memorial moves to 5-2-2 overall and also 2-0-2 in the NLC. Warsaw will host Fort Wayne Concordia Saturday afternoon.
NORTHWOOD 4, WAWASEE 2
NorthWood put the pressure on Wawasee early with a pair of goals out of the gate. Wawasee couldn’t respond, and NorthWood earned a Northern Lakes Conference win Tuesday in Syracuse.
NorthWood got its first NLC win by punching in two goals from Sebastian Guillen. Jerson Sanchez and Landon Parker also scored for the Panthers and Andre DeFreitas had a pair of helpers. Wawasee would scratch one back when Ethan Carey found paydirt in the 15th minute, assisted by Chris Pena.
Wawasee got Dillon Drake back in net after a short absence, and the senior made 10 saves. Luke Lingle made three saves for the Panthers.
The JV game was all Panthers in a 5-1 final. Marshall Beebe had a huge game for NorthWood with four goals.
Wawasee (2-6, 0-3 NLC) will take on Columbia City on Sept. 12, NorthWood (3-2-1, 1-2 NLC) will play in the Argos Invite on Saturday.
NORTH MIAMI 3, TIPPECANOE VALLEY 1
North Miami awoke in the second half to trip up Valley in Akron.
After a scoreless first half, North Miami found the net on a corner kick in the 50th minute. Joel Cisneros brought Valley back to even in the 58th minute. The Warriors would take the lead, then pad it, with goals in the final 20 minutes to secure the Three Rivers Conference win.
Valley (0-8, 0-4 TRC) will face Rochester on Sept. 12.
