NORTH WEBSTER — Blue skies, low humidity and a slight breeze set the scene as 29 pontoon boats filled with 250 people took to the lake for the sixth Lake Tippecanoe Cottage Tour fundraiser benefitting The Watershed Foundation.
The tour is one of many events put on by TWF to raise funds to stop water pollution at its source and keep our lakes healthy for today and the future. “There’s a special community created by the lakes,” said Lyn Crighton, TWF Executive Director. “This event brings people together and represents lake life to the fullest!”
The event featured five houses opened for the day for tour participants. The Buttercup, built in 1900 and currently owned by Nancy Tynan, offered a feel of a true lake cottage. Oak Hill, owned by Tom and Judy VanMeter, combined functionality and craftsmanship to make a perfect family retreat. Marsha and Richard Smith’s home on the north shore of Tippy offered views of the lake from a perfect screened-in porch. Participants marveled at the Gushard home’s unique take on life on the lake, from its salmon-pink exterior to the dynamic designs inside. And finally, the beautiful landscaping and spectacular wine cellar inside the Walker’s home made it a definite crowd favorite.
“Our boat had a fantastic time!” said tour participant Hope Oaks. “I think this was the best tour ever! It was so much fun, and I loved all of the homes. The pier kids all did a great job!”
This tour was made possible by the efforts of 46 volunteers and support from 60 sponsors – including two Marquee Sponsors: Cerulean and ProWake Watersports.
The Lake Tippecanoe Cottage tour raised $19,665 total from the sale of tickets, generous sponsors, and live and silent auction items, including an original painting by local Canary in a Coal Mine Art.
The Winona Lake Cottage Tour will be held Sept. 8 this year. Space is still available for anyone with access to a boat on Winona Lake who would like to join in touring five stunning homes! TWF’s website has more information for those interested. Boats are also available for rent from The Lake House.
Everyone is invited to join in the fun at the Winona Lake Clam Bake after party at The Garden at Cerulean. Live music by Lalo Cura, a $25 all-you-can-eat Clam Bake, festivities, and a live auction run from 7 to 10 p.m. RSVPs to (574) 834-3242 are encouraged to ensure we have adequate food and drinks.
