Golf Results: Sept. 1
CULVER GIRLS ACADEMY INVITATIONAL
NorthWood’s girls golf team won the Culver Girls Academy Invitational Saturday, firing a 330 at Swan Lake Silver to beat out host CGA by four strokes. NorthWood’s II team placed sixth with a 372, while Wawasee was eight with a 398 score.
Cybil Stillson was the tournament low medalist with a 75. Delaney Davis also finished in the top five with an 80, tying with Northridge’s Braedyn O’Dell for fourth. Kirsten Schrock shot 87, MacKenzie Weaver turned in an 88, and Abby Slabaugh shot an 89 for the 11th-ranked Panthers as they knocked off ninth-rated CGA.
NorthWood’s second team was led by a pair of 87s from Makenna Gall and Breanna Goss. Kylee Gall and Abigail Richner both shot 99.
Belle Brunner led the Warriors with a 97, and Tate Cowan shot 99 playing in the fifth spot in Wawasee’s lineup. Jadison Rostochak and Lesley Tayagua both carded 101, and Taylor Cripe’s 109 was the team’s fifth score.
Next up for NorthWood is a senior night meet versus Mishawaka at McCormick Creek Wednesday. Wawasee hosts Fairfield and Elkhart Christian Tuesday.
BRONCHO INVITATIONAL
Warsaw traveled to Lafayette for the Broncho Invite at Battle Ground Golf Course Saturday, finishing ninth out of a strong, 18-team field with a 387.
Lafayette Jefferson won the invite with a 325, and Brownsburg beat out Tipton on a fifth score tiebreaker for second place with a 334.
The Lady Tigers got a pair of 95s from Madelyn and Izzy Ray, and Grayson Kilburn and Marie Frazzetta both shot 98. Julia Hildebrand turned in a 108. Playing as an individual, Miriam Hagg fired a 95 for Warsaw.
The Lady Tigers play next Thursday against Manchester at Stonhenge Golf Club.
IWU Invitational
Sydney Abbott made history for Grace’s women’s golf team on Friday at the IWU Invitational.
Abbott set the program record for best round, carding a two-under 70 on Saturday. The previous record was 73, set by Anna Marshall in 2017.
Abbott charged up the individual leaderboard after shooting 80 on Friday. Her second-round 70 was second-lowest among all participants in the tournament, propelling her to a runner-up finish.
Kristin Holt also enjoyed a highlight with a two-day total of 163, tied for second-best on the squad. She shot a 79 on Friday, marking her first round in the 70s.
Lauren Keiser also shot a 163, including a 79 on Saturday.
Kara Godsey (91-84) and Rachel Harvey (90-85) each improved between rounds to finish tied with a 175.
The Lady Lancers placed sixth out of 13 teams, beating out three other squads in the Crossroads League.
The Lady Lancers’ next tournament is the Huntington Invitational on Sept. 10-11.
