North Webster Community Public Library Offers After-School Activities
NORTH WEBSTER — The youth department at North Webster Community Public Library has geared up for the school year with Tuesday after-school activities.
Beginning Sept. 4, crafts and stories will be held at 4 p.m. every Tuesday Students in kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to stop by the library after school to make crafts while listening to stories.
Also, from 4 to 5 p.m. every Tuesday Suzie, a certified therapy dog and her handler Richard Lehman, will be at the library. Children can sign up in advance for a private 15-minute reading session with Suzie. It provides a fun opportunity for kids to practice their oral reading skill and gain confidence reading aloud. Suzie doesn’t care if a child stumbles over words or makes a mistake. She just loves the attention. Four reading appointments are available each week. To schedule a reading appointment with Suzie, contact the Youth Services Department.
Registration begins Sept. 5 for preschool story time. The fall session runs every Wednesday from Sept. 19 through Nov. 7. Parents have a choice of two time periods at 10:30 or 11:30 a.m. Geared toward ages three to six, preschool story time enables young children to learn through stories, crafts and socialization with other children.
For the library’s youngest patrons, lapsit storytime gives parents and their babies and toddlers, ages birth to 36 months, an opportunity to enjoy books and stories together along with songs and hand motions. Lapsit is held at 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays Sept. 4 through Nov. 2. Each session lasts approximately 20 minutes followed by 30 minutes of meaningful play. Parents can register at the Youth Services Desk or call (574) 834-7122 ext. 202.
The library provides a new and easier way to download e-books and audiobooks from e-Indiana Overdrive onto mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones. North Webster Library cardholders can download the Libby app from the App Store or Google Play and follow the instructions. The circulation staff can also help in downloading and using the Libby app.
The library will be closed Monday, Sept. 3 in observance of Labor Day.
