Warsaw Community Career Center Announces September Events
WARSAW — The Warsaw Community Career Center will host the following events in September. The Career Center is adjacent to the Goodwill retail store at 751 Anchorage Point Drive, Warsaw. All Career Center events are free and open to the public.
Felon Friendly Job Search Workshop/Guest Speaker
- Thursday, Sept. 6 — noon to 1 p.m.
Kirsten Alford will be at the Warsaw Career Center to assist individuals who have a criminal or adult record with finding work. She works with the Department of Workforce Development and is a HIRE Program Coordinator. HIRE is a program designed to help get felons re-entered into the workforce. She will be here to answer questions, guide you through applications, assist you with how to answer difficult questions about your record, and provide you with local felon-friendly companies that are hiring. This is open to the public, but we would prefer if you please call, e-mail, or stop in to verify your attendance beforehand. Those who attend will receive a 25 percent discount card to shop at the adjacent retail store for clothes upon request.
Open Practice Interviews
- Monday, Sept. 10 — 11 a.m. to noon
- Monday, Sept. 17 — 11 a.m. to noon
- Monday, Sept. 24 — 11 a.m. to noon
The Goodwill Career Center will host open mock interviews for anyone who would like to practice their interview skills. If you’re nervous about having an interview or struggling to land a job because of the interview process, these mock sessions will prepare you for the types of questions, from basic to personal, that you could be asked. We’ll discuss how to answer the difficult questions and what to avoid. You’ll also learn how to appear confident and highlight your skills in the conversation. We’ll also cover how personal appearance makes a great first impression in an interview. Please choose a date and time to stop by and practice your interview skills and receive a 25 percent discount card to the adjacent Goodwill retail store.
Grow with Google: Online Applications
- Tuesday, Sept. 11 — 11 a.m. to noon
Let us set you up with a Google account. Then, through a Google Classroom, we can show you how to find available jobs near you. Google Job Search is a one stop shop for job hunting online. It utilizes various other job search engines and websites to find the job you’re looking for. We’ll show you how to customize your search and assist you with the online application process.
Microsoft Office Skills Assessment
- Thursday, Sept. 13 — 11 a.m. to noon
If you are interested in learning Microsoft Office products, whether a beginner or more advanced user, let us assess your strengths or guide you through areas you may need help with. Participants will get a print out of their assessment. From there we’ll design a one on one plan to increase your knowledge.
Intro to the Web
- Tuesday, Sept. 18 — 11 a.m. to noon
The Internet, a.k.a. “the web”, is a huge place. The Warsaw Career Center will help you navigate it, whether you want to access certain information, find documents, or learn how to print, save, research, or communicate with others. We can also take this time to teach you tricks and tips for searching the web, as well as finding job leads and online applications.
Veterans Employment Services
- Wednesday, Sept. 19 — 10 a.m. to noon
Daniel Reed from Work One will be at the Goodwill Career Center to provide information to veterans on services in the local area. He will offer one on one employment help, employer resources, information on benefits and contacts for further services.
Microsoft Word for Beginners
- Thursday, Sept. 20 — 11 a.m. to noon
This class will introduce you to the Microsoft Word program and its components. Learn how to create and navigate through a document, as well as how to save, print, and enhance it. You’ll find out how to use autocorrect, spell checker, insert bullets and special characters. This workshop is a must for the beginner; but all skill levels are welcome.
