Glenda W. Showley
Glenda W. Showley, 82, Rochester, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away at 10:02 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2018, at her residence.
Glenda Wilson was born on March 13, 1936, in Pulaski County near Monterey. She was a cherished daughter of Glenn and Lera Overmyer Wilson. Growing up, she shared her childhood with a sister Lillian and two brothers Russell and Robert. With great Zebra pride in 1954, she graduated from Rochester High School earning the distinction of being valedictorian of her class.
Later that summer, on Aug. 21, she married the love of her life Mr. Donald E. Showley at Rochester’s Grace United Methodist Church. Together they shared over 64 years of life’s adventures. From their union came three wonderful children Debbie, Dennis and Dan. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of five grandchildren and eight great-granddaughters.
A devoted member of Grace United Methodist Church for over 60 years, Mrs. Showley was a member of the United Methodist Women and Bible study groups.
The Showley’s enjoyed the winter’s warmth near Estero, Fla. She became the social director for circle activities with her Florida friends. She enjoyed competitive bridge and other card games along with the challenging board game Mahjong.
A vibrant farmer’s wife, Mrs. Showley oversaw the milking operation in the early years and ran the Showley farm’s office throughout her agricultural career. She cooked and baked a feast for those assisting with their farming usually during the harvest or planting seasons.
Mrs. Showley is lovingly remembered by her husband, Don; a daughter, Deborah Barts and husband Monty, a son, Daniel Showley and companion Leslie Strem, all of Rochester; five grandchildren: Gretchen Mensch and husband Tyler of Noblesville, Landon Barts and wife Andrea, J.D. Showley and wife Morgan, Brantlyn Showley and wife Janet, and Peyton Showley; eight great-granddaughters: a trio of Mensch’s, Ella, Halle and Camille, Lera Barts, the Showley duo Ireland and Scarlett, and Teagan Showley who will welcome her little sister Mara in early September, all from Rochester; and her canine companion Wrigley, the Shih Tzu.
Preceding Glenda Showley in death are her parents Glenn and Lera Wilson; an infant son Dennis E. Showley on May 16, 1960; a special nephew Larry J. Carr, Dec. 20, 2013; a sister Lillian Ludwig; and two Wilson brothers, Russell and Robert.
A celebration of the life of Mrs. Glenda W. Showley will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 29, in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St. Rochester. Pastor Paul Sutherland will officiate. Friends may visit with the family Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. and an hour prior to services on Wednesday. She will be laid to eternal rest on the family plot at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
