Dyrs N. Owens
Dyrs N. Owens, 87, Silver Lake, died at 10:51 p.m. Aug. 20, 2018, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. He was born April 26, 1931, at Salyersville, Ky. to Warnie and Susan (Wireman) Owens.
He married Eva D. Brown, who preceded him in death Nov. 8, 1986. He married again to Eva Adams, Nov. 22, 2011. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Danny L. Owens, New Palestine; and Ricky J. Owens, Elkhart; a daughter, Kathy Jackson, North Manchester; two step-sons: Jim Adams, North Manchester; and Wayne Adams, Warsaw; a step-daughter, Dunyale Tolliver, Fort Wayne; a brother, Virgil Owens, Homer, Mich.; and two sisters: Della Mae Allen and Mary Ellen Harper, both of Salyersville, Ky. Nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Eva; two sons: Dyrs Owens Jr., who died May 17, 2011, and Donald R. Owens, who died Sept. 3, 2013; a step-son, Rickey Adams; a step-daughter, Marjorie Hughes; five brothers and a sister.
A member of Congregation Christian Church at North Manchester, Mr. Owens was a lifelong farmer, owning his own dairy farm east of Silver Lake for 55 years. He was a lover of the outdoors, hunting and fishing. A cowboy at heart he enjoyed horseback riding and traveling to Wyoming, Kentucky and around Indiana. He loved his “babies,” canines Sammy and Dixie.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 25, at Congregational Christian Church, 310 N. Walnut Street, North Manchester. Friends and family may call from 4:30-8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 24, at McKee Mortuary, 1401 State Road 114 West, North Manchester. Pastor J.P. Freeman will officiate and burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake.
