Claypool Town Council Discusses Issues With Ordinance Fines
CLAYPOOL — Business at the Claypool Town Council meeting Tuesday, Aug. 21, was brief, focusing on issues regarding citizens not paying ordinance fines.
Council members, Town Marshal Ben Sanders and Town Attorney John Barrett discussed how the town of Claypool should address citizens who are not paying ordinance fines.
During the discussion, Barrett said that the amount owed per case factors into whether it’s worth taking to small claims court or not.
“Getting judgment is easy, but getting money? Not so much,” said Barrett. “Depending on the type of case, you could be spending more money taking people to court than what you’re receiving back.”
Sanders and the council decided to further study each case in order to figure out which cases should be brought to small claims court. Barrett said he would begin writing letters that will be sent out to each case member.
In other news, the council agreed to allow the Claypool Lions Club to place a sign on CR 700W, near the lift station. The council also scheduled a budget meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5.
Sanders reported that in the month of July, officers responded to 164 calls and made 17 arrests.
