Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department investigated the following accidents:
7:54 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, South CR 425W, Claypool. Driver: Derek M. Kaser, 26, East SR 14, Akron. Kaser told police he was driving his vehicle southbound on CR 425W when he saw a sheep in the roadway. His vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. Damage up to $5,000.
6:24 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, South SR 19, south of West CR 500S, Mentone. Driver: Dylan D. Ritter, 28, West CR 1000S, Akron. Police said Ritter was driving his vehicle southbound on SR 19 when a tree fell from the east side of the road and onto his car. Damage up to $25,000.
12:09 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, West Holderman Road, west of South CR 600W, Silver Lake. Driver: Ethan J. Rutherford, 27. West Old Road 30, Warsaw. Rutherford told police he was driving his car eastbound on South Holderman Road when his lights hit the fog and he failed to see the impending curve. His vehicle left the roadway and collided with a tree. Rutherford refused medical treatment at the scene. Damage up to $10,000.
Warsaw
Officers with the Warsaw Police Department investigated the following accidents:
3:50 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, Frontage Road, Warsaw. Driver: Angela S. Hale, 42, Brookside Manor, Goshen. Hale told police she was pulling into a parking spot in the Carson’s parking lot when her vehicle collided with a parked car. Damage up to $1,000.
12:27 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, Springhill Road, east of Lake City Highway, Warsaw. Drivers: Victoria Montgomery, 26, Briar Ridge Circle, Warsaw; Mardelle F. Menzie, 50, Lincoln Park, Warsaw. Montgomery told police she was approaching the traffic light at Lake City Highway and Springhill Road when she looked down to place a cup in the cup holder. She did not realize that Menzie had stopped and collided with the rear of Menzie’s vehicle. Montgomery complained of wrist pain but did not require further medical treatment. Damage up to $5,000.
10:50 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, East Center Street and North Park Avenue, Warsaw. Drivers: Brandon J. Miller, 30, Prairie Trace, Hoagland; Alicia A. Gallo, 50, Arlington Avenue, Fort Wayne. Miller told police he was driving his vehicle westbound on Center Street when Gallo’s vehicle slowed down suddenly in front of him. He was unable to slow his vehicle in time to avoid a rear-end collision. Gallo and a passenger in her car both complained of pain, but refused treatment at the scene. Damage up to $5,000.
8:46 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, North Airport Road, Warsaw. An official at the Warsaw airport told police that sometime during the night, a vehicle drove through a locked gate. Damage up to $2,500.
6:51 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, West Jefferson Street, west of South Union Street, Warsaw. Driver: Nancy J. Prater, 56, West Jefferson Street, Warsaw. A witness told police Prater was talking to a subject and then got into her vehicle and began backing up, turning left and striking the pedestrian in the stomach. The pedestrian went to Kosciusko Community Hospital but signed herself out before being seen by a physician. Damage less than $750.
3:06 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18,South CR 250E, north of US 30, Warsaw. Drivers: Tara J. Prater, 46, Pike Shore Drive, Warsaw; Celestine A. Yeiter, 42, Timber Lane, Winona Lake. Prater told police she was turning left in her vehicle from North CR 250E onto US 30 when Yeiter’s vehicle stopped suddenly in front of her. She was unable to stop her vehicle in time to avoid a rear-end collision. Damage up to $5,000.
10:25 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, East Market Street, Warsaw. Driver: Karlton B. Goon, 62, North CR 600W, Warsaw. Goon said he was backing up in the parking lot of a Marathon gas station when his vehicle struck a parked, unoccupied vehicle. The owner of the parked vehicle was notified. Damage up to $2,500.
12:48 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, North Park Avenue, Warsaw. Driver: Taylor E. Cassel, 19, West CR 100S, Warsaw. Police responded to a loud noise near Lucerne Park and discovered a red truck lying on its side. A subject was seen fleeing the scene and was later identified as not only the passenger of the red truck, but as a passenger in a later traffic stop. The passenger identified Cassel as the driver of the red truck. Cassel had gone to the emergency room for injuries sustained in the accident and told police he rolled the truck while doing donuts. Damage up to $10,000.
11:07 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, Frontage Road, Warsaw. Driver: Ericka L. Hodges, 25, Fairlane Drive, Warsaw. Hodges told police she was rear-ended by a red Pontiac in the drive-through of the Taco Bell. She stated the driver of the Red Pontiac drove away from the scene of the accident. Damage less than $750.
