Volleyball Results: Aug. 18
WARSAW 4-0 AT KOKOMO INVITE
Warsaw had a banner day at the Kokomo Invitational, not only winnnig all four of its matches to claim the championship, but also seeing coach Rick Ashmore to his 900th career victory.
Ashmore reached the milestone in game one of the day, a seesaw 2-1 victory by the Tigers over Maconaquah. Erin Peugh led the team with 18 serve receptions and eight digs. A 2-0 win over Richmond had Kennedy Lauck smash seven kills, and another 2-0 win over Frankfort sealed pool play at 3-0 and a berth in the title game. Katie Swanson led Warsaw against Frankfort with nine kills and three aces.
Warsaw rolled in the championship game in a 25-10, 25-6 romp of Indianapolis Tindley.
For the tournament, Kacy Bragg totaled 67 assists, 14 kills and seven blocks, Peugh had 19 digs, seven kills and five aces, Liz Schmidt had 18 digs and four aces, Kylie Smith had 24 digs and three aces, Lauck had 19 kills and 11 blocks, Barnett had 22 kills and Katie Swanson had 20 kills and seven aces.
Warsaw (5-1) will visit Homestead Monday.
NORTHWOOD 2-2 AT TOM HECK INVITE
NorthWood split its four games at the Tom Heck Invite. The Panthers lost to Andrean in three and Fort Wayne Carroll in two, but defeated Homestead in three and Lake Central in two.
Stat leaders for the Panthers on the day included Maddy Payne with 30 kills, Whitney Gessinger with 48 digs and Caroline Mullet with 73 assists.
NorthWood (4-3) will host backyard rival Fairfield Tuesday night.
TIPPECANOE VALLEY JV 3-1 AT PLYMOUTH INVITE
Tippecanoe Valley rallied from a loss to Penn in the first round of the Plymouth Invite to come back for a title.
A 2-1 loss to Penn in game one had Valley rally with two 2-0 wins over Plymouth and NorthWood to make the final. There, Valley soundly beat Goshen 25-5, 25-10 for the trophy.
Allison Betten had a big tourney with 16 digs and 15 aces, Ashley Butler and Macy Kirchenstein combined for 53 assists, Sidney Wagner had 20 kills and Haley Backus had five blocks.
Valley is now 5-2 on the season.
WAWASEE JV 4-0 AT WAWASEE INVITE
The host Lady Warriors swept its competition for the championship trophy.
Wawasee gave up just 37 points in a pair of 2-0 wins over Lakeland and South Bend Washington before edging Wabash by two and three points. In the final, Wawasee lost to West Noble 25-18 in the first game, only to come back and win 25-20, 15-8 to close out the championship.
Stat leaders for the Lady Warriors included Delaney Hare with 16 aces and 17 kills, Corin Nyce with 32 assists, Morgan Heche with 29 digs and the trio of Grace Campbell, Emma Dippon and Leslie Vazquez with three blocks apiece.
Wawasee is 5-1 on the season.
