Tigers Open Soccer Season With Victory
SOUTH BEND – They started a little later than most, but Warsaw made the most of their 2018 girls soccer debut.
Corissa Koontz scored her first-ever high school goal on a feed from Abby Steffensmeier, and Warsaw made it hold up in a 1-0 win over Valparaiso Friday evening in the opening round of the Indian Invite hosted by South Bend St. Joe.
Koontz, one of the sensational freshmen coming into the Warsaw program, scored in the 72nd minute of a physical deadlock. Goalkeeper Kaylee Patton returned from a year off of soccer to seal up the shutout.
Warsaw will face Evansville Memorial at 9 a.m. Saturday then take on Chesterton at 2:30 p.m.
