Calizo, LCA Keep Rolling
WINONA LAKE – Tori Calizo’s hat trick was just what Lakeland Christian Academy needed to rally past Kouts, 5-3, in girls soccer Friday night.
Calizo’s second goal broke up a 3-3 tie and her third tally was added insurance for the Cougars. All three of her goals came in the second half.
Lauren Starrett got LCA on the board in the first half, taking a feed from Anna Reimink and tickling the net with her first goal of the season. Jessi Calizo scored her third goal of the year, pulling LCA back to a two-all tie just before half.
LCA fired away on Kouts, taking 32 shots in the game. Maddie Paris saved 12 of Kouts’ 14 shots on target.
“I love the way our team plays when we face adversity,” said LCA coach Nat Raber. “Something about being down in a game just gets the team going harder. Very happy to see Lauren score tonight. She is a huge part of our team and had been down on her play the first two games. Tori lead the team in shots and was getting frustrated with no results.
“I loved seeing her shoot her way out of it. We played another good opponent and were able to battle back after being down twice for the win.”
LCA moves to 2-0-1 on the season and will visit Whitko on Monday.
In other LCA news, the LCA junior high volleyball team beat Community Baptist 25-15, 18-25, 15-8. Maddie Silveus led the Cougars with eight kills and four aces. Amaya Hoyt had four assists and Addisyn Daley added five aces.
