Boys Tennis Results: Aug. 14
JOHN GLENN 3, TRITON 2
Triton’s boys tennis team opened the season with a tough, 3-2 loss to John Glenn on the road in Walkerton Tuesday.
The meet featured a number of coin flip matches, most notably at 1 singles, where John Gardner lost 6-4, 6-3 to Gabe Weiss and at 2 singles, where Jared Bules fell 6-4, 6-2 to Anthony Kaser. Tyler Heckaman and Trevor Miller extended Joe Delinski and Matthew Moore to a tiebreaker in their first set at 2 doubles but lost the tiebreak 7-3 and ultimately fell 7-6(3), 6-2.
The Trojans’ two wins came at 3 singles and 1 doubles, as Connor Large put away Colin Stephens, 6-2, 6-2 and Carter Kuntz and Chase Butler earned the most lopsided victory of the night, a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Glenn’s Brandon Gobie and Alex Kruk.
Triton is back in action Wednesday for its Hoosier North Athletic Conference-opener at Knox.
BREMEN 5, TIPPECANOE VALLEY 0
Tippecanoe Valley lost a 5-0 decision at home in Akron Tuesday.
Connor Frentzel and Jeremy Landis took five games from Jack Barnes and Taylor Richards at 1 doubles before falling 6-3, 6-2. Payton Mills won four games at 1 singles but ultimately succumbed, 6-2, 6-2. Ethan Yates was shut out 0-0 by Brett Yelaska at 2 singles, and Valley forfeited points at the other two positions.
The Vikings host North Judson Thursday at 5:15 p.m.
