Wayne Alan ‘Yogi’ Hyndman
Wayne Alan “Yogi” Hyndman, 63, Columbia City, died unexpectedly at 8:39 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018, at his home of natural causes.
He was born April 30, 1955, in Columbia City, a son of the late Chester R. and Josephine (Davis) Hyndman. He spent his formative years in Columbia City and graduated from Columbia City Joint High School in 1973.
His first job was with the Whitley County Highway Department for five years. Among his many tasks, there was plowing snow, which he continued to enjoy throughout his life. He then worked for Wheeler Well Drilling for a few years. He finished his work career at Coupled Products, Columbia City with 26 years of service.
On June 9, 1990, he was united in marriage to Gloria D. Schrader. They have always made their home in rural Columbia City.
He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #1417 for over 40 years. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. A hobby farmer, he raised livestock for many years. Known to his family and friends as “the consultant” he freely offered his advice on how to perform any task at hand.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Gloria; a sister, Christine D. Nickolson; a brother, Philip “Hippy” (Linda) Hyndman; a sister-in-law, Darcy Hyndman, all of Columbia City; nieces, Rhonda Howell, Angie Hull and Nicole Hyndman and nephews, Aarinn Nickolson, Evan Hyndman and Stefan Hyndman.
Additionally, he was preceded in death by a brother, Brian Hyndman and a nephew, Marc Nickolson.
A visitation will take place on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Son Funeral Home, Columbia City. An Elks service will immediately following the visitation.
