Two New Faces Possible On TVSC School Board
AKRON — With three spots on the Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation’s Board of Trustees available in the next election, there will be at least one incumbent vying for the slot while two first-time candidates seek election to the five-person board.
Todd Hoffman, joined the board in 2015 and represents District Five, which includes New Castle Township in Fulton County.
While Hoffman is not currently on the ballot, he plans to file for re-election before the noon, Aug. 24, deadline.
Hoffman is a 1982 graduate of Tippecanoe Valley High School and is a farmer and business owner.
In District Four, Bryan Murphy has decided not to run for re-election and said this week he is fully endorsing Tom Bauters as the district’s only current candidate. Bauters is a certified public accountant and a graduate of Notre Dame University who grew up in rural St. Joseph County.
Bauters said he is “hopeful that my professional background, combined with my deep involvement in the school corporation and community will add value to our students and community as the next Henry Township school board member.”
Bauters also served six years on the Tippecanoe Valley School Improvement Steering Committee, five years as treasurer of the Viking Booster Club and numerous years as a Mentone Youth League baseball coach. He is also an active reserve deputy for the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department.
“I am very compassionate about our youth as they are our future,” he said. “My wish for them is to pursue their goals and dreams through the programs and opportunities offered through the Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation.
“I am hopeful that if elected, I can provide enhanced value to the visions and goals of the Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation.”
Stan Miller, who currently serves on the board representing District Three, or Kosciusko County’s Franklin Township, said this week he is not likely to seek re-election.
A candidacy has been filed for that slot by Lacey Wise. On social media, Wise said “I am excited to bring my 10 years of educational leadership experience as a school employee, coach, as well as experiences as a former student and current parent of three in the corporation.”
Board members Aaron Zolman and Board President Adam Heckaman are currently not up for re-election, with terms that will continue until Dec. 31, 2020.
